Menu buttons disappeared

Menu buttons disappeared
The menu buttons at the top right of the menu bar have disappeared, especially the "X" to close the program. I have tried to get it back by going to the Toolbar Editor and dragging and dropping the "Quit X" button up to the menu bar, but that didn't work. Any help appreciated on how to restore these buttons.
