Wrong Aspect Ratio for NTSC 704x480 DVDs

Postby FlavorFlav » 15 Jul 2014 00:44

hi,

everytime i try to play a NTSC DVD with a resolution of 704*480 VLC violates the 4:3 aspect ratio.
VLC stretches the window to 1280x480 (2,6 : 1).

here is a small sample dvd (6MB): https://www.dropbox.com/s/kjvdfg6dcv8w9 ... tratio.zip

I tried with this 2 versions:
VLC 2.0.6
VLC 2.1.3

You have to open dvd folder to see the problem. when you open the vob file directly the aspect ratio is ok.
the ifo file specifies 4:3.

Is this a bug? or is something wrong with my dvd?

If you play only VTS_01_1.VOB does well, at 4:3, but if you do it as a video DVD that's when played badly. The error must be in the DVD authoring and not in Videoland player. It is my opinion.

Greetings.

yes correct, like i said. the single vob files play correct, but not the DVD. At the moment i can't really belive, it is the DVD authoring. tried 2 different DVD Auothring softwares. for 720x480 aspect ratio is fine, but for 704x480 VLC destroys the aspect ratio.

for the VIDEO_TS.ifo the software ifo edit says me this specifications:

Code: Select all

Video Manager Menu attributes: Video: MPEG-1 720x480 (NTSC) (NTSC 525/60) (4:3) (pan-scan & letterboxed) Number of Title Play Maps: 1 (VMG_PII_SRPI) TIitle 1: VTS_O1_*, IIN_1 (Angles: 1) (Chapters: 1) (Start Sector 8) Number of Video Iitle Sets on this DVD: 1 (VMG_V'IS_AIRI) TIitle Set 1: VTS_1 Video: MPEG-2 704x480 (NTSC) (NTSC 525/60) (4:3) (not specified perm.display) VTS_1 Audio 1: Not Specified (Dolby AC-3) 2ch 48Kbps DRC
and for the VTS_01_0.ifo

Code: Select all

Menu attributes: Video: MPEG-1 720x480 (NTSC) (NTSC 525/60) (4:3) (pan-scan a letterboxed) TIitle Set (Movie) attributes: Video: MPEG-2 704x480 (NTSC) (NTSC 525/60) (4:3) (not specified perm.disp1ay) Audio 1: Not Specified (Dolby AC-3) 2ch 48Kbps DRC (ID: 0x80)
so everything is set correct to 4:3 and other players like MediaPlayerClassic and PowerDVD play it with correct ratio aspect. only VLC has the problem

all authored videos burned to a dvd media playing correct at 4:3... the only player who has aspect ratio problems is vlc

it would help a lot if somebody has a 704x480 dvd, which is displayed correct.

the ticket got closed with status "duplicate", but I can't find the referring duplicate ticket. Anybody know if this bug is still observed in the ticket system?
