Problem playing h265 vids

Postby newvidman » 13 Jul 2014 15:16

I try to test the new h265 vids because Filesize and so on.

With the Internet Friendly Media Decoder I made a File.
Before it was 14 mb now it´s only 4 mb.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ifme/

The Problem: I can´t play this File. It only shows the first Picture and play´s the Sound.

To test if vid is broken I used exmplayer.
http://exmplayer.sourceforge.net/

with this Player I can play the Vid and it is shown correctly.

I tested VLC 2.1.4 32 bit and 64 bit and also the nightly 3.0. No VLC can play the File.

Is there any solution for this?

The Problem seems to be with the Program which encodes in h265.

Now I tried mediacoder - much slower :(

And the Result: VLC played the vids :)

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts (use the default ones) and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335
50 MB max should be enough.

here is my log - I can´t load http://streams.videolan.org/upload/

maybe it´s a Problem with the converter? Made it with Internet friendly media Encoder.
Second Debug will follw - I convert the File with mediacoder - running at the Moment.

Re: Problem playing h265 vids

Postby newvidman » 16 Jul 2014 20:55

I think I found the Problem.

If I encode the File with mediacoder - VLC will Play normally.

If I encode the File with Internet Friendly Media Encoder the Files are not played.

This is because of the Tuning set. The Tuning set in this tool is: psnr

So Files encoded with it can´t be played. Hope it helps to find the Problem :)

Sorry for my english

Currently running VLC 2.2.5 Weatherwax. Have no problems running IFME x265 transcoded videos with this versions or with earlier 2.x.x versions. All IFME is, is a GUI for x265-08.exe/x265-10.exe/x265-12.exe, which is the industry standard for h.265 encoding. No tuning.

As a note, since installing IFME, I have enhanced it with the latest versions of x265-xx ver 2.0+11(64-bit), mkvmerge.exe ver 9.3.1(64-bit) and ffmpeg.exe(64-bit). 32-bit versions also available. If your processor supports SSE4 and/or AVX, use the VS (Visual Studio) compiled version, otherwise use GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) for x265-xx.exe. You will have to install these files manually by going to [drive]\%programfiles%\Internet Friendly Media Encoder\plugins folder and replacing the new files in their appropriate folders. As a safety precaution, I backed up all "to be replaced" files first just in case I ran into any problems (which I did not). These up-to-date versions run marginally faster and have added command line options.

Get clickable download links for all the above programs at: http://www.TheLayeredMix.co.nf in the Audio/Video Transcoder section.

Interesting Note: VLC 2.x.x will play x265 8 and 10-bit and all sub-chromas (4:2:0, 4:2:2, 4:4:4) but does not allow you to adjust video effects (ctrl-e). On the other hand, VLC 3.0 allows video effects adjustments with 8-bit x265 but will notplay 10-bit or 4:2:2 and 4:4:4. Hopefully this will be resolved in their final release.

Yes, it needs hardware decoding to be fast. And so far, that does not work on AMD GPUs.

What 3.0 versions did you try?
