How to change the language of the DVD menu?

Hi altogether,

when I play the Game of Thrones DVDs seasons 1 to 3 on my VLC Player 64 bit for Windows 7 64 bit, the DVD menu for the second and third season is only available in Italian and and Russian. But I need a German DVD menu or at least English. It's the same with the Mplayer or SMPlayer.

I tried different things like changing the audio track, changing the subtitle language and I also filled in “deu,de,ger,en,eng” etc. in all different forms and variations (with and without blanks after the comma, with and without quotation marks ...) under “Preferred subtitle language”. I also tried to deactivate “Start directly in menu” under “DVD with menus”. But nothing worked so far.

Some Amazon reviews say that for a hardware DVD Player it would be necessary to change the preferred language of the player to German. So, how can I do this with the VLC Player? (The menu language of the player is already German.)

My DVD drive has region code 2. I changed it to region code 1 and back to 2. I bought the DVDs in Germany and the case and the booklets are all printed in German.

When I play all season with PowerDVD or Windows Media Player, all the DVD menus are in German then and I don't have that problem.

Since the VLC player has the better video quality, I really would like to have German or English DVD menus there.

Is there any solution out there?

There is a "menu-language" (Menu language) setting in the advanced preferences. If that does not work, the DVD probably does not have the language you selected at all.

Thanks for your reply. Where exactly in the "advanced preferences" can I find the "menu-language setting"? (The DVD has German DVD menus for sure, since it works with PowerDVD.)

There is definitely no such setting. I've looked up everything. That’s why I posted the question in the first place.

Wow, it took me a whole 30 seconds to find it under All -> Input / Codecs. Obviously, you have to be a developer to find it, so hard!!! Not.

But also under All -> Input / Codecs is no setting, where you can change the language of the DVD menu/DVD navigation!

Would be nice to have that option maybe in a future version of the VLC media player ...

Thanks for your help. I already tried that. Just now I tried it again exactly as it is said in the posts to which your link refers to. But the DVD menu was still in Italian/Russian (season 2/3). When I play the DVD with Windows Media Player I get German DVD menus straight away and I can choose between different DVD menu languages in the player settings. Thus the DVD has German DVD menus for sure but it seems there is no way to display them with the VLC Player ...
