I am attempting to build a setup to copy off my Dish Network DVR, and burn to DVD. I am hoping to use an old desktop, that is currently being used for our youngest child to play educational games, it sits next to the TV already, so all I have to do is hook up the wires. It's an old Sony Vaio, P3, 512k, 80gig, with a CD/DVD burner, and Lubuntu 14.04. Will this system have enough power to pull VLC, while copying, and possible burning? I can then always pull the copied file off the network, and burn with my laptop, I'm using Lightscribe DVD's, so my laptop will be used at some point. Or do I need to just plan on installing on to one of the laptops, I just hate to tie one up long enough to copy a few movies. When the other one is sitting right there already. A little over a year ago I had a system set up using a Dell P4, 768k, until it finally fried, I was given this other one free, as it was just sitting in a friends attic.
