'm' key bug

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

'm' key bug

Postby Hosal » 04 Jun 2014 10:37

I am currently using VLC version 2.1.3 and I have encountered a rather annoying bug. Whenever the m key is pressed VLC jumps to the top of the media library and starts playing the first song/video. This happens despite the fact that the m key is not bound to anything, neither as a local hotkey nor as a global one. Even more annoyingly it also manages to somehow suppress the key press completely, thus rendering the m key unusable while VLC is running. For instance if I'm writing something in word and press m while VLC is running, it doesn't write anything and it resets my music/starts playing the first song in the list. For some reason google couldn't help me, so I'm hoping someone else here had to deal with this BS. I'm using Win7 by the way, however I have no idea if that is relevant to this matter so I posted in this board section.
Please help =)

Yes, this is an annoying bug, but not only since Rincewind.
It works if you use the Previous or Next button, not the Mous button.
This must be done even when playing the first piece. So Next - Previous.

I think you misunderstand my problem, it has nothing to do with the Prev/Next buttons or with the mouse. I'm talking about the m key on the keyboard and I don't need a workaround or some other solution. The problem is that the m button is doing something at all. I just want it to do nothing and I can't unbind it, since it's not bound in the first place.

Ok nevermind, I just stumbled upon the "VLC media player - reset preferences and cache" thing, clicked it and miraculously it actually did fix this BS, so I still have no idea wtf was wrong but it's working now as it should.

I do not think that the problem is resolved. In a playback list with more than 9 objects the focus jumps to the list with the M button between the objects 9 and 10, if one has made a selection with the mouse and the mute function does not work.
That changes when the Perevious or Next button presses. This is definitely running Windows 7 or Vista that way.

My current list has 13 items and the m key still isn't doing anything, so I guess (and hope) that the problem is resolved.

Oddly, the same version that you have done reset preferences and cache and I did reset preferences and cache. Nevertheless, the behavior is different.
