VLC can't read ID3 tags?

VLC can't read ID3 tags?

Postby a139231 » 08 Apr 2011 16:40

I have a set of mp3 files tagged with ID3 metadata. VLC doesn't display this information in the playlist window. Double-checking, I opened EasyTag (tagging software) and it displayed all of the tag data (i.e. album, artist, title, etc.) correctly. Then I loaded the folder back into VLC but it still doesn't display the tag data and uses the file name as the title, but all other fields are empty. I'm using version 1.1.8

Where's the link for that version? I use ArchLinux most of the time, so I'll just wait for 1.2.0 version to be released through normal updates. However, I have a dual-boot box and I could install this newer version and test my issue under XP. Thanks for your help.

Do you have the taglib support in?

Fish.

How do I tell?

I am using the VLC nightly builds repo for Ubuntu.

I have this app NOT installed...

libtaglib2.0-cil - CLI library for accessing audio and video files metadata

Is there a command to list what VLC is built in with please?

Ah, found it...

$ vlc -vvv

'--enable-taglib'

So, yes, it is.

I have tried it with various different .mp3 files and it USED to scrobble fine, using lastfmsubmitd.

It is now NOT working, and I am trying to debug... hence the suggestion to see the metadata... hence it is missing.

Thanks in advance.

What's next to try and test?

:-)

I'm able to scrobble from VLC just fine, once I set it up. But I'm confused by the way that VLC reads the tags. Artist/Album/Songtitles work fine but the rest (e.g. genre, rating etc.) are often blank for me in VLC, but filled in for every other player/tag editor, which is very strange/annoying.

I'm getting this issue too, all these years later. It's disappointing to not see any resolution on this thread :/

This is the output from vlc -vvv (which does show taglib enabled):
