odd UI behavior in Linux

Hello.
I've noticed that in Ubuntu, if I insert a DVD, then open VLC, then choose "play a disc" it shows a drop down that *doesn't include* my newly inserted disk. It just says /dev/dvd [or something like that] which doesn't work. Navigating to the disk's VIDEO_TS folder and playing that instead is ok, but a bit tedious of a work around.
Anyway just so you're aware of it.
