Stream VLC to XBMC

Hi, I have a problem using VLC's desktop streaming feature (only http screen streamer I found). I noticed that it only works when I use it through localhost on the same PC, however when I use it through my IP it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. XBMC generally gives me an error through a .strm playlist and when I tried it through json-rpc it didn't work either. So my question is how do I get it to work and for those who got it to work what is the speed (I intend to use it to strean games to my TV).
