Log file location

Postby anudamiana » 05 Apr 2014 13:57

Greetings!

I very much love your media player. I've used it for years. That makes it all the more embarrassing that I can't seem to locate the log file it refers me to when it cannot play one of my videos.

Most recently, I've encountered this message:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:///E:/DCIM/100MEDIA/SUNP0008.avi'. Check the log for details.

I was doing some initial reading up regarding VLC logging, and I noted there is some scripting needed initially in order to facilitate logging. I've not entered any scripting, so I'm not positive if there even is a log with more details for me or no--even though the message refers me to said log.
Often programs will have different interpretations of what might be called a log, seems almost as individual as the individuals who created the software...so I guess I'm a bit on 'the short bus' on this issue.

Is there a general log file that is created without add'l scripting by the user prior, or no? If there is more than one version of logging possible with VLC, would it be some sort of 'debugging' matter that would be the reasoning for the scripting mentioned in previous posts?

Thanks so much for your time.
