Can't have Divx AC3 5.1 sound with VLC

Postby Sachy » 23 Sep 2005 12:39

Hi, i have an iMac G5 with optical out and I succeed in reading DVD with AC3 5.1 sound (with the Apple software).
But with VLC, I can't obtain the Home Cinema sound...
I have read the READ ME and the settings are ok (CORE AUDIO + SYSTEM correctly set) and as it works with iDVD with the same settings, I really don't understand what happenned.
With these settings in VLC, I don't have any sound. Moreover, when I disable CORE AUDIO, I have stereo sound...

If anyone can help me it would be very good for me 8)

PS: in audio configuration system, it is weird, I have just "Stéréo" available: Digital Sound 5.1 is un grey... No matter, I have AC3 5.1 sound with iDVD

I have the exact same problem with the exact same machine as Sachy.
I tried to change the preferences as suggested in the ReadMe, but the only thing I get to work is the PCM Stereo sound.

Any tips/help would be much appreciated!

Is there really no MacOS X user who successfully managed to get AC3 output on an external DD 5.1 receiver via the optical out of an iMac G5 or Power Mac?
Since it is described in the ReadMe how it could work, it seems that the possibility is there.
Anyone?

Does not work here either (new iMac 20')!
I can't even set Multichannel in the audio/midi setup - only stereo, the rest is grey and unselectable!

One of our developers is heavily working on this issue, but since this is quite some work, this isn't to be included in our next release (VLC 0.8.4). We are targetting 0.8.5 for this.
I can't give any help for the meantime though :(
