Surround Sound issue with multiple blurays, nightly x64

Postby Inmate #001 » 30 Mar 2014 07:19

I've noticed that in playing back both 6.1 and 7.1 TRUE-HD (DTS and Dolby variants) vlc seems to be sending playback information for dialog meant for center, or both left and right channels to the front left only channel. Now stuff that is normally played on either left or right, either side, or the back surrounds plays back normally. I've got the latest nightly, but it's happened in a previous install of a nightly too. I've made sure that sound is indeed playing back out of all 7 channels.

I didn't get this previously before upgrading to windows 8.1 and a 7.1 surround setup.

Windows is setup for 7.1 surround, and so is the sound card.

if I change it to 5.1 in the card's settings, I get it playing back normally, but I loose the rear surround.
Though, if I play a 5.1 surround sound track (true-hd (both variants dolby and dts) I still get the dialog only going to the front left channel.

For reference, I'm using the Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition blu-ray, and the Jurassic Park blu-ray.

Is this a known issue, and/or is there a fix?

Edit:

edited to add 5.1 information.

Shameless bump:

I'm curious as to if anyone has procured any information on this at any point?
