All "grouped" TV shows crashing on 2.2.2

Postby aardvarkk » 15 Mar 2014 16:31

I have multiple TV shows loaded onto my iOS 7 iPad. The index page displays all of the videos, and I can play individual files (movies) just fine. But any time I try to enter into one of the grouped folders for television shows, the app begins to display the shows in that folder and then quits back to the home screen. Re-entering the app tells me that it has quit unexpectedly.

Likewise, going to "TV Shows" on the side menu causes the device to crash. Again, all individual files like movies seem to play correctly, but something about the grouped shows is crashing the app.

How large are your TV show groups?

Can you give the naming scheme used by your shows? Is “Show Name S00E00 episode name", just show name without episode name or vice versa or is "show name 0x00 episode name" with the same sub-questions?

One example is a show with 13 episodes (so nothing overly large). The naming scheme is simply:

The Show Name S00E00

No episode name is included. I don't think there's anything too remarkable about the arrangement...

Indeed. I'll try to reproduce this later on!

Thanks for the report!

Is there any update on this? It's pretty crippling for me as none of my TV shows are watchable until this is fixed.

This should be resolved for the forthcoming 2.3 release, which we will submit to the App Store very soon from now.

Thanks again for your report!

I have had a similar sounding problem with my iPad Air (currently running 7.1 iOS and 2.2.2 VLC).
-If I list 'all shows' then neither singles nor groups are accessible (tapping the image doesn't open the file/group and eventually VLC crashes).
-If I list only 'tv shows' then I can open groups and play individual files in the group.
File name convention is pretty standard - showname, episode and in some cases encoder.

Restarting the iPad doesn't change this behaviour which was present before 7.1. I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling then re-adding all the shows - its seemed to help initially but then reverted to the problem behaviour so I was wondering if it relates to volume of library (in my case about 50Gb of tv/film files, mix of .mp4 and .mkv)?

If this is also addressed by 2.3 I'll be very happy as when I'm travelling for work VLC on my ipad helps keep me sane :-)

I'm having this same issue too. All of my shows are grouped. My shows have always shown up this way, with no issues. I deleted all my files associated with VLC so that I could update what I'm watching and now when I click the "Untitled Show" box where all my files are kept, it flashes them on screen for a second...and then goes back to the home screen. Any hope of the update coming out soon?

It will be submitted to the App Store review team next week. Sorry for the delay.

Done today. We had to delay it again because real life interfered with our development cycle.
