Window behavior

Postby vesper » 27 Feb 2014 22:30

I have two Windows XP systems with the VLC player installed. On one system, the player is 'well behaved' and comes up as expected (as desired) in a separate window. On the other system, the player takes over the entire screen upon startup. I have not been able to find a setting that controls this behavior. Help?

| Addendum: Here is a screen shot showing how VLC comes up on the one system.
| This image is of the ENTIRE display: http://prntscr.com/2wl2pl

Thanks!

You can manually resize the window, then exit VLC and it will be saved.
If for some reason it doesn't work then reset the preferences.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I CAN'T resize the window as the window doesn't have grab bars or a normal window title bar (please see the screen shot). I reset the preferences as you suggested, but that didn't do anything. Also, all the preferences are the same on both systems (I can compare the systems side by side). Any other ideas please?

I have finally figured this one out, but quite by accident. For some reason, VLC has been coming up in fullscreen mode on my one machine. meaning there are no windows grab bars or edges. I happened to 'bump' the F11 fullscreen toggle key and to my astonishment I was back to a normal window which I could then resize. When I then closed VLC, the next time it came up it behaved as a normal window. I never saw anything that described this behavior and that is why it was so mysterious for so long.

If I could make a recommendation for the development team, I think it would be appropriate to not remember the state of the fullscreen toggle between invocations...
