[Android 4.3] Hardware acceleration playback choppy

Postby pihug12 » 02 Mar 2014 20:01

Hello!

I'm using VLC on my Kindle Fire HD running CM10.2 (Android 4.3.1). The build installed is one of the latest nightly (2014-03-01).

Here are logcats while playing a same file :
1 - Hardware Acceleration disabled : http://sebsauvage.net/paste/?f082eed898 ... LlaCwdKMQ=
2 - Decoding Acceleration : http://sebsauvage.net/paste/?974600e684 ... UPSwU36sU=
3 - Full Acceleration : http://sebsauvage.net/paste/?162b443566 ... JABUW2gTM=

Media details :
Video: Xvid 512x384 25fps [V: mpeg4 advanced simple profile, yuv420p, 512x384]
Audio: MP3 48000Hz stereo 149kbps [A: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 149 kb/s]

The video is fine with software acceleration only.
With "decoding acceleration" (2nd case), the video is choppy.
With "full acceleration" (3rd case), the video is choppy and stretched to full screen.

I don't know if hardware acceleration is still work-in-progress, but I just thought sharing these logcats could maybe help you.

Yes, it's still work in progress but your logcat entries are not really useful, no frames seems to be dropped.
Can you share a sample of a video which yields choppy playback?

Thanks! Could you test the performance again after disabling subtitles for this video?

I'm not sure there were any subtitles... I could try it again when I go back home tonight but I don't remember loading any of them.

Please check if there was some subtitles and tell me, I'm just trying to eliminate some hypotheses here :)

Thank you,

I don't notice anything too weird in the logs, though...
