how can only one dvd play perfect, the rest nyt

Just how can only one dvd play on my vlc player (the first one tried) and all the rest nothing except the error VLC can't open files MRl file or something like that. I have tried for two weeks to correct this problem. If one DVD works what would prevent the rest of my DVD's from playing, that DVD that works is the first one I tried to play and it did take a few seconds for it to kick in.
