VLC 2.2.0, iOS 6, crashes on UPnP access

Postby YanHD » 22 Jan 2014 11:22

Hello,

I upgraded VLC to version 2.2.0 on both my iPhone5 & iPad 3 and both devices have the same problem : when I click on a UPnP server, the app crashes. I have authorized the bug report to be sent by the devices.
I have tried to remove the application and re-install it again but this does not solve the issue.
The steps to reproduce the issues are as follow :
- open VLC
- select "local network" option -> This displays correctly both UPnP servers (namely "Freebox server" and my Synology NAS)
- when I select a server, the app crashes

It worked fine with the previous VLC version.
I am running iOS 6.1.4 on the iPhone 5 and iOS 6.1.3 on the iPad 3.

Any suggestion on what steps I could follow to solve the issue or is this a bug of the new version ?
Regards,
Yan

Did it work in the old version?

Are you using a freebox revolution? what kind of Synology NAS is it?

Did it work in the old version?
--> Yes, it was working seamlessly on both devices (iPhone & iPad) with the previous version.

Are you using a freebox revolution? what kind of Synology NAS is it?
--> It is a freebox revolution and the NAS is a Synology DS413 running the latest version of DSM (4.3-3810 Update 4).

Kind regards,
Yan

I can confirm the exact same behavior using an iPad with iOS 6.1.3 and two different software UPnP systems running on a PC - these were working in the previous version of VLC on iOS. The software UPnP systems I tried it with were: Serviio media server and the UPnP/DLNA Server for foobar2000.

Thanks.

Alright, thanks for the feedback and mentioning software test cases. This will make it quite a bit easier for me to debug :)

Hello,

Same here, IPhone 3GS iOS 6.1.3. I use FreeMi uPnP server. Works perfectly well on vlc 2.1.3. I had to downgrade.
I also own an iPad Air. Had the same crash issue under ios 7.0.3. Works well now under 7.0.4.

I have been experimenting with different encoding options for content and the transcoding options on the Serviio DLNA server and noticed a case where if the content had DTS audio and was not transcoded for delivery, VLC would crash at the point where it should have displayed that entry's listing. The same content with the audio encoded as AAC - or the DTS version with Serviio set to transcode to AAC will list and play correctly. However, if I transfer the file with DTS over, VLC can play it locally. This is with VLC 2.2.2, IOS 7 on an ipad.
