Playlist missing Title since 2.1.0

Postby lordimac » 14 Nov 2013 15:29

Hello VLC Community,
my VLC Playlist is missing the Title since Version 2.1.0.

I tested around with Version 2.1.2 and 2.2.0 but it doesn't help at all. Only downgrading to 2.0.9 solves this Problem. I tried to delete all Preferences I could find which means, Application Support, Preferences, Cache, etc. Found and deleted everything with Console Command "find / -name "*videolan*".

But still the same Problem. If I right click the Name-Row in Playlist View I can add and remove Columns to display. Title is greyed-out. :?
Also there is a first Column without any Name which cannot be resized.

I think there must be an Preferences File somewhere else for the Column View of the Playlist. Maybe I have to delete this one, but I don't know which one.

Any Ideas? Thank you :-)

Hi,

It's right that the left colum can't be resized and title is grayed out. But the title column should be always visible. The column configuration is saved in ~/Library/Preferences/org.videolan.vlc.plist.
Be sure that VLC is closed, then try deleting this file and start VLC again.

Hi,
even if I change the Column Layout in the plist directly and restart VLC everything is like before editing the plist File.
Tried closing VLC, deleting plists and reopening VLC so many times now.

Thanks

Is the Design of these Columns maybe stored in an SQLite Database from the System or maybe another Preferences File? Even if I remove the Preferences Files with the Goodie and restart VLC 2.1.1 the Preferences are resetted, but the Column Layout is still the same like before deleting the Preferences. So it must be stored somewhere else.

Totally forgot to mention that I'm running Mavericks (10.9).

Here is another Screenshot with full Window.

Any News on this? There are also two other Threads describing the same Problem.

The preferences are stored in the plist file, which is also deleted by the script in the goodies folder. But you need to quit VLC *before* you run the delete script. Furthermore, you might wait a bit because it can happen that current settings are still cached by the operating system.

I just improved the reset functionality within VLC itself, so this should be the most reliable way from the next version on.

Of course I quit VLC before I run the Script or delete the Preferences manually. ;)
And like I said, the Preferences are deleted and also resetted, but NOT the Design of the Playlist Columns. Also waited 10 Minutes after deleting the Preferences, didn't help.

Okay, works now. I deleted the Preferences and restarted my System. After the restart I can see the Title again and also the Columns are resetted. So this must be an Cache Issue.

We will introduce more advanced preferences resetting in the forthcoming 2.1.2 release. Thanks for the report!

The problem has not been fix now in v 2.13.

As suggested, I had deleted all preference files (osx) and still the title greyed out and not shown.

Ask your osx developer to fix this! not being able to reference the title in a playlist is f88king annoying!!!

Then you did not deleted preferences correctly. It _will_ work afterwards.

Please take a further look in this thread and try out the things suggested. (E.g. restarting your system.)
