DVDs wont play in Win 8

Postby emmjay » 26 Jan 2014 09:51

Hi,
I'm not a "techy" so what I'm posting here may be silly, but its infuriating the hell out of me.
I've just upgraded to Windows 8 ( from Win 7) now that was a mistake in itself!! ( but thats another story).
I've always used VLC successfully in the past, but I just cant get it to play any DVDs at all now I just get the following error message.

Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "G:".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///G:\'. Check the log for details.

Havent a clue what that means & I dont know where to look for the log.

I'm running a 64 bit machine & have a DVD RW & a Blue Ray RW, both with up to date drivers & neither will play DVDs. I'm running VLC 2.1.2 64 bit.
Any help would be appreciated.

I just uninstalled 2.1.2 and downloaded/installed 2.1.1 and I am back up and running on Windows 8.1 64-bit. Here's the link to download 2.1.1 again for your 64-bit OS http://download.videolan.org/videolan/v ... -win64.exe.

I have same issue. Just invested in new laptop win 8.1 . Downloaded VLC 2.1.2 but get following error message when opening DVD.
Blu-ray error:
Path doesn't appear to be a Blu-ray
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///E:/'. Check the log for details

The Disc is certainly a BluRay.

Read somewhere that this issue is related to version 2.1.2 for 64 bit os and it was recommended to uninstall 2.1.2 and install 2.1.1. I attempted this, I found 2.1.1 download, download says 2.1.1 however about states 2.1.2.

So would like to know where I can download v 2.1.1 if this is a true fix and when 2.1.2 is likely to be fixed

Thanks in advance for any suggestions
