How to Take Snapshot WITHOUT Subtitles

Postby wildvision » 27 Jan 2014 12:37

If I'm watching a DVD that has subtitles turned on, is there a way to take a snapshot that will NOT show those subtitles? I tried searching the forum, but the closest thing I found were a few posts of people with the opposite problem; they wanted the subtitles to show! So, surely there's a way to take a snapshot without them, right? Any help would be appreciated!

If your subtitles are not burned (see Subtitle) you just have to turn off the subtitles... (Video>Subtitle Track>Disable).

Or I don't understand what you mean...

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. What I want is to be able to take snapshots of a subtitled video, without having to turn the subs off, and still have the snapshots *not* show the subs. I know other software can do this, so I wanted to know if it was possible in VLC.

I just posted a workaround for your problem (posting #4) : https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... es#p401459
The key is to trigger a "macro" of Hotkeys. You will need a third party software. I'm a Mac user and am using BetterTouchTool. I'm sure there is a PC Software out there which can do the same.

The principle is to trigger (by keystroke, gesture etc) the following hotkeys:
  • deactivate subtitle track
  • take snapshot
  • activate subtitle track
this could be done within a view miliseconds. So you can virtualy take snapshots without subtitles while watching a subtiled movie.

It wolud be nice if you could post the name of the key remapping software which works for you!
