Problem Changing Media Information

Postby DudeFromVA » 07 Jan 2014 02:26

Hello,

I am having a problem with incorrect media information (title, etc.) showing up on videos. Typically, the video shows the media information as whatever the name of the file is. This is showing the jumbled letters and numbers, plus someone's name. When I try to change the media information and save it, it reverts back the jumbled letters/numbers thing. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

I am using VLC Player 2.1.2 and I have Windows XP, System Pack 3, if that helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take Care,

DudeFromVA

How do you proceed and what are the codecs of your video (ctrl + i) ?

@Corbax: Apologizes for the slow reply. With the video playing, I went to Tools, then Media Information, then put in the correct title and removed the person's name from the artist field and clicked "Save Metadata". The codecs being used are "MPEG-4 Video (XVID)" and "A52 Audio (aka AC3) (a52 )". The space at the end of the "(a52 )" is intentional.

@Corbax: That's strange because I have many other videos using the MPEG-4 Video (XVID) codec and they update just fine.

@Corbax: Any idea why the MPEG-4 Video (XVID) codec is allowing the media information to be changed in most file, but not in others?

One solution to remove that sort of metadata tag is to open the file in freeware MPEG Streamclip, then resave it (Save As...) in the same format. The file won't be remuxed, so it takes just seconds. When saving, there's a box to add a tag, but it's okay to leave it blank. Leaving it blank will erase the old tag. There's a batch file feature, so multiple files can be processed at once.
