Files on external SD card not recognised

Postby Pete66 » 31 Dec 2013 18:45

I have been using VLC on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 for over a year. My movies are on the external card and at first it all worked fine. A few months ago VLC stopped seeing these movies even when I went into preferences and selected the correct folder. I can play them by going into Directory and selecting from there, but that means it will not remember where I left off and I have to start from scratch each time. Any suggestions?

Are you using a nightly build?

Try deleting the data of the app and it should detect the external SD card.

If it still doesn't work, you can select the folder necessary in preferences.

I am not sure what you mean by "Try deleting the data of the app" - could you elaborate please?

I have ticked the relevant folder in preferences but it makes no difference - it still says "No media files found, please transfer files to your device or adjust your preferences." I have tried ticking the box for the entire SD card - no joy; I have tried then ticking the subfolder which contain the movies - no joy. Very odd!

Tick the box for the entire SD card and refresh.

From the main screen I have four options down the side: Video, Audio, Directories, History. When I click in Video I get the No Media message. When I click on Directories I have two options - the internal member (sdcard0) and my sd card (extSdCard). If I click on the SD Card I can then choose the folder holding the videos and, after a pause while they load up, they are all available and can be played. But the problem with that is that it is clunky and I can't go back into a video where I have left off partway - always goes back to the start.

I can also click on the 3 vertical squares top right of the page and choose preferences from the drop down menu. I have tried various options there - I have chosen the full sd card, cleared that then gone for the individual folder containing the videos. No joy. There is no "refresh" option as far as I can see. But I have tried uninstalling VLC and starting from scratch several times.

Sorry still not sure what you mean by refresh. I went into preferences just now and unticked the sd card completely. Closed the app fully. Opened it again then went into preferences and ticked the sd card. Went back into the Video option and it just contained one video that I had made on my tablet. Went back into preferences, this time ticked the subfolder as well that contains the movies, went back into Video option and the "No Media.." message was there again.

Actually I think I do know what you mean by refresh now - the rotating arrows, top right of page. Tried that but same problem

Can you delete data and post a video showing what you did?

Could you post a video showing what you did in VLC?

Alternatively, a logcat log will work too.

I will have a go at posting a video. I don't know what the logcat thing is! How do I post a video on here though?

Hmm.

After you saw the "no media" message in the videos tab and switched to the directories tab, what happens if you switch to the videos tab again (from the directories tab)?

"Delete data" means go into your Settings > Applications and open the VLC entry. Then you will see an option to Delete Data.
