FLV file- No Audio..clear video.

I'm currently using vlc-2.1.2 on Windows 7. All formats play well except for flv. files. The video plays well but no audio can be heard. No sound at all. All other formats like mp4 and webm play perfectly, video and audio.
The file is from youtube and does not even play in Applian Flv player.

Tried other flv files, same result. Clear video, no audio.(black screen with no sound in flvplayers)

Any suggestions?

which version are you using?

vlc ? 2.1.2 32bit
download helper ? 4.9.21

Is it working on other flv players?

with mpc hc its working


when u don't need a flv file
i suggest to download the video with download helper as mp4 file
audio and video quality is better + higher resolution

maybe I have a codec issue

with vlc or mpc hc u don't need any additional codecs
both players have build in codecs (for 99% of all files)

thanks Schnuffel. It seems to be working fine on your system. Anything I can try out? Does no audio in vlc suggest something? Thanks for the suggestion..was trying to do the mp4 thing itself..couldnt figure it out though..will research that. But i'd really like to play flv files. Tried 2.1.1 too. Same result. Is the log saying anything? Will test out mpc hc for flv.

tried it in the latest mpc and it didnt play. got a warning screen that says 'the following pins failed to find a connector'..could attach an image if it helps.

a funny thing happened.
the video on this page, an flv file, played perfectly in VLC (currently using 2.1.1) downloaded via downloadhelper.

Is it a you-tube thing? for none of the flv files downloaded from youtube are audible on vlc. wierd.

Is that coming from the log? Anything I can try out? It seems to be working in VLC, just not for me..even the first video mentioned, is working normally for Schnuffel.

have u tried latest vlc 2.1.2 ?
may be there is a bug in 2.1.1

the flv video from your first post is encoded with mpeg layer 3 (mp3) audio codec

youtube uses aac or mp3 audio codec for mp4 and flv files
(not sure about 3gp files)
vlc should play both without problems


for mpc hc
if u have installed (broken) codecs on your system it can cause problems for mpc hc
mpc hc uses own codecs, but can also use external codecs
better ask on there page for help
