VLC missing "A/52 over SPDIF" option after update

Postby MajoNess » 22 Nov 2013 12:44

Hello!
I recently updated my VLC ( 2.1.1 32-bit) like i always do when there's a update, but after the last one i only get stereo sound from my Yamaha receiver when i play video with surround sound ( 5.1 DTS, Dolby Digital etc.).
It seems VLC no longer have the "A/52 over SPDIF" option after the last update. I tried following this guide i linked to below, but i cant find ""Win32 waveOut extension output." neither.

I have use google but can't find anything. These guides didn't help..

http://nishilg.blogspot.no/2011/05/how- ... spdif.html
http://easylife-en.getdefault.com/why-v ... if-option/

Whats wrong? :(

Edit:
I now have the option to choose "Audio Device", i seems that option have replaced "A/52 over SPDIF" option somehow?

I have the same issue on the 64bit version.
Since updating to Rincewind I've lost passthrough of DD,DTS to my receiver. The option to enable SPDIF has gone from preferences.

Reverting to 2.1.0 did nothing to help, going further back to 2.0.5 fixed it for me.

Same deal - I cannot get DD/DTS to work, where before I was always able to select "A/52....." I am now able to select my receiver (Onkyo - computer is plugged directly into HDMI port on receiver) as the output device, but it remains in stereo mode, instead of DD/DTS...

I can't seem to find a fix, and don't want to have to revert back a few VLC versions... Can anyone help?

Running Win 8.1, 64bit.

Anybody have any update, fix, or info on how to get the feature back?

I have downgrade to version 2.0.8 and it will have the a/52 option.

This is pretty important features for most of us, how can they mess this one up?

2.1.2 fixed this issue.
Since this is my first post, first I want to say thank you to all contributors to VLC it is an amazing program!

I have not been able to update since I believe v2.0.8 without losing S/PDIF passthru that will pass DD, DTS streams unaltered so that external decoding devices such as receivers work; confirmed by DD DTS visual indicators as well as the obvious audio quality loss. I updated to v2.1.2 today and it broke again.

I found the setting that must be ticked for it to passthru properly: Preferences, Settings All, Audio, (select) Use S/PDIF when available. I tried every other selection of S/PDIF I could find in various parts of Preferences under various module selections, Audio device, etc. but this is the one that worked. For those like myself that are looking for the A/52 option (we used to have to select under audio device) it is no longer there (and was technically incorrect anyway as A/52 refers to DD only and it would pass DTS as well). Now it simply and more correctly states Digital Audio S/PDIF but not to worry, it now works properly if you have made the selection I've identified above.
