VLC has Problems with Multichannel Output

Postby mruebsam » 06 Dec 2013 01:12

Hi,
vlc just plays the stereo tracks when I try to playback a surround sound movie. I get an error message (like I have to configure my device in the audio/midi setup) as soon as I switch to the surround tracks. It doesn't matter if this is a dts, ac3 or multichannel arc track. Other programs like logic, MainStage have no problems with Jack or with the direct communication to my audio interface card :-( (Setting up the loudspeaker tab in audio midi, certainly changes nothing..)

I have following configuration:
Mac Mini Server i7, 8 GB
Mac OS 10.9
VLC 2.1.2
Jack Pilot 0.9 beta 17
FireWire 12 Output / 10 Input Audio interface Prism Orpheus

Can anybody help me?
Thanx, Marcus

Does it work with Jack disabled? Did you try a recent nightly build from http://nightlies.videolan.org ?

Hi,
tried already the latest beta... :-(
There is no difference if I use jackos or if I go directly into the Prism Orpheus.
vlc says: I have to configure my device in Audio/Midi... and just uses the Stereo Tracks... :-(

Hi, I just tested some more. VLC connects perfectly to to the multi channel fire audio...
But as soon as I put jackOS in between, vlc just plays the stereo channels :-(
Any ideas?
Thanks, Marcus

My problem is similar : i experience a regression
My last VLC version was 2.0.2 version and the multichannel sound was Ok when i configured "use SPDIF if possible" on the Audio section.
Now this checkbox has desappeard in VLC 2.1.2 (that i downloaded for security issues i have read).
Result is that multichannel sound is now stereo or "multichannel blinking" (maybe related to this topic : https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... TS#p394804) on my Yamaha receiver.. except if i downgrade to my old 2.0.2 VLC version. :(

No. The SPDIF checkbox is still there, you might need to take a closer look. :-)
