VLC 2.1.1 broken?

Postby patddfan » 18 Nov 2013 05:51

When I was using VLC 2.1.0, I was prompted to update, but when I quit out of VLC 2.1.0 as prompted to do, I was unable to relaunch into VLC 2.1.1, and the icon for VLC is no longer a traffic cone, just a generic app icon. i also noticed that there is an older version that is also in my applications folder [2.0.8] that works fine. I'm running 10.6.8 and apple says the following message: 'vlc cannot be opened because of a problem' does VLC 2.1.1 work with 10.6.8, or was this just a bad install?

It looks like an interupted install. Please download the new version manually from videolan.org.

thats what I ended up doing, but I have no idea why there are two copies of VLC in my applications folder... one is called 'VLC (2.0.8).app' the other is called 'VLC.app'... any idea why this would have occurred?

The old version wasn't removed correctly for unknown reasons. Shouldn't occur again, just remove it manually :)

well, now that VLC 2.1.4 is out, I've been having no major issues under Mac OS 10.6.8 to report of. the only issue I had was with 2.1.3, and I just used 2.1.2 until 2.1.4 was released. Thanks for all your help!
