2.1.1 numerous new issues

Postby redesigned » 16 Nov 2013 12:50

I just upgraded from 2.1.0 to 2.1.1 and since upgrading am experiencing a number of issues.

1. Video Player remains fullscreen when videos are done playing, have to hit escape to exit fullscree mode.
2. after pausing, when resuming playing, there is no audio until i increase or decrease the volume, then the audio returns.
3. the controls in the fullscreen mode have changed locations on me several times without being moved by me, usually they are centered and approx 1/4 of the way from the bottom unless i move them.
4. The volume level now looks like it maxes at 100% yet you can still exceed it by the same amount, previously the level reflected the actual range the volume could be set to and didn't look the same from 100% - 200%. This could just be an interface change, just thought i'd mention it just in case.

I'm a longtime fan of VLC, and have never experienced issues with any release until this one.
I'm running OSX Mavericks 10.9.
Thanks!

Regarding..
1. We switched to native fullscreen mode as a default for osx Mavericks with 2.1.1, because its integrated better with the os. So, this is expected.
2. We have some reports regarding audio and pause, but this should really behave the same on 2.1.0 and 2.1.1 as we did not changed anything in audio output.
3. Could you elaborate?
4. No difference here between 2.1.0 and 2.1.1. This is the expected behaviour.

For #4, yeah the previous max. was 200%, now it is 100% (or 125%)? Anyway, I changed it back to 200% myself by going into the settings. I think you might have to enable "Show all" to see this one; it's in Interface -> macosx, or somewhere around there, I believe.

Yes, as I said this is expected. We changed the volume slider so that at the very right the volume is at 125% by default. If you want higher volumes, you can still use the hotkeys or change the setting you mentioned.

Why was this changed? Is it because at 200%, the volume gets distorted sometimes, so this is discouraged now? A lot of videos I watch are low volume, so rather than increase the volume every time I play a video, I just change the default VLC volume to 150%. What kinds of adverse consequences will this have?

Depending on the input media, volume is really badly distorted over 125%. We just want to avoid that unexperienced users put the volume slider to the right and then wonder about the bad audio quality.

If you know what you are doing, feel free to increase the default volume to your preferred level.

Changing the preferences under "Show All / Interface -> macosx" works for the L-R slider but not for the white bar that shows on the right when using the scroll wheel to change volume.

I always use the scroll wheel to adjust volume and use this white bar as a guide. Since 2.1.1 (maybe before, I think I skipped some update) this bar only goes to 100%, even though I can get the volume to 200% with the scroll wheel (even with the 125% default limit).

See screenshots for the behavior of both, the L-R slider and the white bar at 100% and 160% volume:

I've also been experiencing some new problems with VLC after the last (couple of) update(s).

First, my hotkeys are not working, notably the spacebar for pausing/playing (normal or fullscreen). I noticed in the settings that the hotkey for Play/Pause is "Space...". Not sure what the three dots are, but I changed it to just "Space" - still doesn't work. I tried a few other hotkeys (f - fullscreen, Esc - exit fullscreen, n - next....); none of them seem to be working.

The mousewheel also produces no results with regard to volume (I can't even test the 100% / 200% issue).

Come to think of it, VLC doesn't seem to respond to my keyboard AT ALL! I also have a Mobile Mouse on my smartphone, and hotkeys don't work from there either.

I think I'd like to go back to an older VLC...

Ah, did not see your response in time (I assumed it would come to my inbox...).

Anyways, I just uninstalled and reinstalled VLC. Hotkeys work now.

I cannot watch videos from my my NAS any longer. Does not matter what size, after upgrading to 2.1.1 I have to copy even 200MB video locally to watch.

I too have this issue (nach03), though not using mouse wheel... I am on MacBook 13 '08 with OsX 10.6.8 and VLC 2.1.1 When in full screen mode, I use double finger on touchpad to adjust up/down volume. Older version of VLC (? ver) the white bar at half way full was 100% and full was 200%. Now version 2.1.1 the full bar is 100% through 200%. The bar does not change from full to part full unless it is under 100%. I would like to have it the old way... Half full bar at 100%, and full bar at 200%. Thank you. How do I adjust settings. After reading some updated "fixes", I still cannot adjust it back to the old way. Also I do not have the Qt Setting option... is this where the solution is to be found?

This is the way the new OSD slider behaves now. You cannot change it.

Please keep in mind that you should avoid volume levels above 100% as far as possible. First, try increasing the analog volume of your speakers (or the system volume).

Well I have been searching everywhere... but it appears that the Web Plugin is still not released (even in version 2.1.2) when might this plugin (specifically for Firefox) be due out? I noticed that it has been an issue since Lion came out.... I have several web sites that need your plugin to function correctly... Please Pretty Please.... BTW I am sorry that this post may be in the wrong place, but I couldn't find any specific area for it...

Sorry, but this thread is completely off-topic for this question. Please just open a new thread for different topics.
The web plugin will be released when its finished.
