Trimmed video is pixelated / has artifacts

I have a file I'm trying to trim down. When I use the record feature to make a clip, that clip comes out horribly pixelated / has artifacts to the point it's no longer usable. I haven't seen any recent solutions to the problem. I'm running Version 2.0.8 Twoflower (Intel 64bit). I changed the post-processing quality from 6 to 8, and that seemed to slightly improve the situation, but it's still unusable because of all the pixelations / artifacts. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

If you are just trying to set what VLC plays (rather than reduce the size of the file), you could try my Clipper extension at http://addons.videolan.org/content/show ... ent=163792. It does not trim the video file itself, nor make other changes to the file. There is no reencoding so no loss of resolution, etc. Clipper allows you to go through a video (or several videos) and decide where to start and stop each one. After you save the playlist with that information, you (and anyone else) can load the playlist with VLC''s "Media | Open File" menu item, without using the extension.
