VLC Web Plugin Does Not Load In Chrome

I'm using VLC 2.1, and the latest version of Chrome.

Anytime I come to site where the VLC Web Plugin should load, I just get a message bar across the top that says "Could not load VLC Web Plugin" and a grey box where the plugin should be displaying. I've searched the forum, haven't found this particular issue discussed or a solution given. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm weary of having to use IE to make use of website media plugins.

I haven't been able to even find an *option* for installing a Chrome plugin when installing VLC 2.1.0 - either in the 32-bit or 64-bit packages. Where did you find a VLC web plugin for Chrome?

It doesn't turn up as being an option in the install file, but Chrome's plugins page definitely registers and detects a VLC web plugin. It just never runs successfully.
