VLC player opening language

Postby AJinHKT » 15 Dec 2011 10:49

Just downloaded and installed latest version of VLC player, a few times. Every time I download and set up VLC player and select English for language I get Thai language on the skin. Yes, I live in Thailand but cannot read Thai!
How to get VLC player skin to display in English pls?

hello lads i also had this problem i am in beijing and vlc loaded in chinese.
well after much effort i have the answer as follows.
good luck.
ok go into vlc page then press ctrl+p preferences
next you will see a part green cone next look on the top and go fully to the right and click the symbal
you will see a drop down menu then click the top item (this is the auto button for language)
then at the bottom there will appear 2 buttons click the left one ( s ) this saves it.
then close the vlc page and then reopen it.
and eureka it should be in english now and everybody smiles :D
its like anything its easy when you know
any problems come back to me

i don't know which version you are running but mine is ver 1.1.11 and it does not appear to work the same as yours. ctrl-p brings up preferences and there is an audio tab which brings a bunch of settings but none of them concern the language. if i click "inputs/codecs" i then get a selection for "audio language". i have this set to "us english" but for all the good it does i can write it on a piece of paper and have thew same affect. thanks

Re VLC Media player language. A belated thanks to Foxreynard for telling me in his Dec 2011 reply, how to change the language of VLC. I kept uninstalling and re-downloading the program thinking that I'd missed something.I hope the admin people at VLC see this and let people know how to change the language preference (By hitting control "P") The only up side was that my ability to read French in addition to English is much improved.Cheers all!

I'm just loading the VLC player on a windows 8 ultrabook. During the downloading process I was unable to select English as the language. The default language was set to Catala, and no matter how many times I selected English, it returned to Catala before I could confirm and close the window. I read the earlier fix, but pressing ctrl+p just invokes print for me, not preferences.

What did work for me was pressing ctrl + E while the language selection window was up, which selected English as the language, then LEAVING my finger on the ctrl button (or it would revert to Catala) and confirming the language selection before releasing the ctrl button.

Hope this helps someone. Also hope VideoLAN has a chance to clean this up. Nonetheless, thanks for the player--I did send a contribution. :)

Hi all....I'm just loading the VLC player on my Windows 8 Laptop, and ....

"during the downloading process I was unable to select English as the language. The default language was set to Catala, and no matter how many times I selected English, it returned to Catala before I could confirm and close the window. I read the earlier fix, but pressing ctrl+p just invokes print for me, not preferences."

Some said,
"...pressing ctrl + E while the language selection window was up, which selected English as the language, then LEAVING my finger on the ctrl button (or it would revert to Catala) and confirming the language selection before releasing the ctrl button... "

That didn't work either.

Does anyone know why is this set in Catala? And how come this isn't working for me?

I've actually used VLC for the longest time, but it suddenly went wonky on me: freezing, skipping, not playing the music it was set for.

Anyone else have these problems, or am I the lucky one?

Any input that can help would be appreciated!

Thanks all for reading!

I 'm unable to change the language to English.

Thanks all!

Change it in preferences (Ctrl+P), first section.
