Wierd codec problems

Postby speedrock » 16 Aug 2013 19:13

Heya,

I just got my first mac and everything is nice and smooth except for one thing. A lot of my .avi videos don't play at all.
In VLC it looks like this:

Other players won't even play.

I think the problem is the codec (Windows Media Video 8 WMV2 and Windows Media Audio 8 WMV2)
Already tried installing the Flipfor mac player from microsoft but it wont play at all and it didn't get me the codec either. Apperantly no one else has this problem because googeling yields no further results.
Om my old Windows box the files play just fine.

Any ideas on how to get this codec installed or what I messed up?

Thanks in advance!

Grtz,
Speedrock

The video has DRM encoded in it so that it only plays in Windows Media Player or a player that can decrypt it which as far as I know hasn't been licensed to the Mac even with Flip4Mac.

Maybe find a better source for your videos. MKVs are more reliable for me.
