Does VLC play CD ISO image files?

Postby Tony_D » 08 Aug 2013 06:10

I have been using Slysoft's programs to rip my DVDs to ISO image files and play them with VLC. Now I'm wondering if I can play a CD ISO image with VLC. Some of the CD image files I've seen, like Nero and Roxio, appear to be in a proprietary format. If there is a public ISO standard format for CDs that VLC can play, I'd like a recommendation for the software.
Thank you for any answers,
TD

ISO is a standard format which can contain only one track. This is the reason why you can't make ISO images from regular Audio CDs.

VLC will play the data from an ISO image, but first you have to make that data available. This is how it is done on a Mac: Right click on the ISO file and choose: Open with/Disk Utility. Once that launches, click on the image that appears under your ISO in disk utility and hit the blue "Mount" button. This will mount your image as a readable disk. Open VLC Player and hit File/Advanced Open File then select the "Disc" tab. Select the Video_TS Folder radio button and hit "Browse". You will see your ISO Image under devices. Select that then select the Video_TS folder on the image and hit open. You will now see this open up in VLC as if you had inserted a DVD disc.

I open my iso file and it works fine in Mac OS 10.8. It includes a complex menu to move around the different parts of the file. But now with version 10.9 Maverick in my Mac Book Pro the iso file opens as it should in the menu but clicking on the link buttons does not work. Nothing happens. I can see nothing.

Could you help or anyone else?
Thanks

Why just use EAC and rip it to FLAC?

No, VLC does not support that.
