VLC & Dropbox?

Postby pbysh » 19 Jul 2013 20:17

I've just downloaded VLC for iOS and the first thing that caught my eye was the dropbox support. Unfortunately, however, I can't seem to get it to work. Whenever I go to "Dropbox" on the menu I just get an empty screen showing "0 files" at the bottom even though I have lots of videos on my Dropbox account. I then tried to go to settings and found the "Unlink from Dropbox" link (even though I never actually linked the two apps so I'm not sure how VLC thinks it has a link) but pressing that does nothing at all. I then tried copying the URL from my Dropbox app and streaming it on VLC and that also did not work. Am I crazy or is there something I'm missing?

the first time you click on Dropbox, it should ask you to login from VLC app...

It never did. It just said 0 files the first time I opened it. I am 100% sure I never logged in within VLC, which seemed odd.

Reset the Dropbox in the settings and try again. Problem solved?

As I said in the original post, hitting "unlink from Dropbox" from the settings screen did nothing. I also tried reinstalling both VLC and Dropbox with no success. If you meant something else please clarify.

Sorry for the incomplete reading of your initial post. We solved this issue for a bug fix release, which is scheduled to be submitted to Apple for review today.

I am facing the problem Despite that I just updated. Did the fix go in v2.02?

When do we expect it?

Weird. Works great for me both on iPad and iPhone 5. Which hardware and iOS version do you use?

Similar problem here (iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.3, VLC 2.02)

I linked to dropbox just fine, it shows me all my folders but only certain files. It shows .txt files but when I open a folder I know is full of .wav files (16/44.1) it says "no supported files". I open a folder I know is full of mp3s and it's the same thing. Confusing.

I also tried wifi upload, the songs are there in the browser but not in VLC, even after quitting and reopening.

We don't support audio-only media in VLC for iOS so far. Hence, we don't list those in the Dropbox downloader and will block them actively in the WiFi uploader shortly (to cause less confusion).

Audio-only media support with a proper UI including folders and playlists will be part of VLC for iOS 2.1 later this summer. Stay tuned!

ah, thanks Felix, I'll wait for 2.1.

I mostly use desktop VLC for audio, rarely video, so this possibility never occurred to me: I just went back to the apple store and noticed the app does specify "photo and video", I'll read more carefully in future.
