Hi,
For pretty long time I am using VLC, I really like it.
Good stuff for having almost anything streamed over a network.
Since I stepped from release 1.1.x to 2.0.x, I am missing (a working) solution to inject RSS/Atom feed into content.
Although I think it does work! It is (for me) not possible to have any text displayed. Alternatively, I check putting some text on screen by using Marquee, this seems to be wonderfull working - as aspected.
I have spent much time tring various options/combinatino, just to make sure it not me failing
But without any results. silly thing is: RSS feed is frequently refreshed, only no text is displayed.
feeds inluded with a picture: picture stand nicely at front of the bar. some thing is going on there
Even most options are working.. the window can be put on every spot on the screen, rss-ttl can be changed.
( I tried with: http://www.ad.nl/rss.xml )
Although I want to use it on VLM with TS-streaming. I can figure out how to.
The missing part is HOW to get just working example, because this on, does not work for VLC 2.x.
command (on Debian): vlc <soma file> --sub-source=rss --rss-urls="http://www.ad.nl/rss.xml"
Even when doing it manually, by setting all options in GUI, it doesn't show up.
Picture are displayed, no text. On Some feeds a black rectangle box is displayed.
There seem no difference on doing it manually or from command line or from VLM.
At this moment I am getting a bit tiered... Wheeping my hair out of me head... what about to do now?
- Is any there other people using this feature?
- Any recent examples? Most I found are based on VLC 1.x.
- How to debug, checking if data coming from the feed,
- Are there any requerements to the XML/data of the feed.
I tested live feeds, but de primary Atom example, does not make any change. From the logs no errors are reported.
The command (on Debian) i use for testing: vlc <file.mpg> --sub-source=rss --rss-urls="http://www.ad.nl/rss.xml"
accoording to a wiki, this should be the simple way to get it.
some other (very old) artikel: http://archive09.linux.com/feature/60700
... I can post lots of thing I have tested, not working.
Just to save our times...
- Could anyone post a working example ?
Just basics are fine.. I need one step to get further on this.
Debug info / version info:
edwin@desktop4:~$ vlc --version
VLC media player 2.0.3 Twoflower (revision 2.0.2-93-g77aa89e)
VLC version 2.0.3 Twoflower (2.0.2-93-g77aa89e)
Compiled by siretart on sandy (Aug 12 2012 08:05:41)
Compiler: gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-8)
Updating on another system (Debian -sid) does not make any changes.
On VLC version (32bit) / 1.1.3 it is all working OK.
- Is there some thing changed on the syntax to have a RSS-feed displayed ??
Looking forward to some working examples, please.
