Subtitles just for foreign passages

Postby nick_br » 09 Jul 2013 22:49

Quite often I watch a DVD/BD, where sometimes people talk for a few minutes or sentences in different languages than the main language of the video. It would be cool, if only during these times subtitles would be displayed. In VLC I only managed to either turn on subtitles permanently, which is annyoing since 95% of the time, the subtitles are the same language as the spoken one. It also is somewhat distracting, when there is permanently some changing text at the bottom of the screen. Or I can completely turn them off, which is also somewhat annoying, because I don't understand these foreign passages.

I downloaded a trial version of a commerical player to try this and there it seems to work fine, where I just have the subtitles for the foreign passages. But first I don't want to spend money for that piece of software, second, this would be the only advantage over VLC and I really like VLC.

Is this somehow also possible in VLC?

There should be a special subtitles track for that.

So it's no special player magic. Cool, thx!
