"Add to VLC Media player's Playlist" - Option Problem Fix

Postby EliteHunter » 19 Jun 2013 19:51

Don't know if this was requested or if it's a problem just for me but when i select multiple videos (mostly animes) and right click "Add to VLC Media player's Playlist" or "Play with VLC media player" option it doesn't sort the videos by its name, it just puts them in a random order and doesn't even start from the first video from the list. It's all random.I'd like to request a fix for this where it is in order when you do this.It would be cool if there was an option in the setting which you can select which order type you want to make (name-date-size), personally i don't need this option but you gotta be user friendly right

I'm pretty sure that's Windows-related. The same happens for me when adding files to WMP's playlist.

A co-worker years ago taught me an interesting solution that still seems to work in this situation.

When you're selecting multiple files and you want the order to be maintained, highlight starting from the bottom and then working your way to the top. I usually do this by clicking the bottom file, holding down CTRL + SHIFT, and then clicking the top-file. This seems to honor the order in the receiving program while highlighting them from top to bottom just scatters them.

:/ Thanks for the answer but that solution didn't work for me.I doubt it's a problem of the windows.(might be the windows version but i'm not talking about the version) Probably the problem is when VLC starts it doesn't check Strings(name of the file) so it can order them instead it randomly appends index to the file.

Unfortunately, you're right. It's the context handler doing the misinterpreting here. My tip only applies to the WMP add-to-playlist context-handler and drag-and-drop. Tested and true in WinXP and Win7.

But keep my tip in mind if you every notice it happening in other Windows applications. Click all the files in reverse order while holding down control, or a group of files starting from the bottom then clicking the top while holding CTRL + SHIFT, then drag-and-drop. It really does work.

And as a workaround until VLC's add-to-playlist context-handler is resolved, dragging-and-dropping multiple files clicked in reverse order directly to an open VLC playlist works.
