Audio problem playing Humax PVR files

Postby JefUK » 24 Jun 2013 09:04

There has been a long standing problem with using VLC to play files recorded on the Humax HDR Fox T2 PVR. The sound level regularly and abruptly makes large changes in output level. Changing the AAC audio decoder to another ffdshow AAC decoder (ff_libfaad2.dll) completely solves the problem. Can the AAC audio decoder in VLC be improved?

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts and then post the link to the file here.

Cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:

50 MB max should be enough.

Please go to this link for all files:-
https://www.box.com/s/q7w84khbmhauvkdie8ui

"The Other Boleyn Girl3_0.ts" is a short part of the file exhibiting the problem. The changes of audio level are mostly in the second half of the clip. The file shows the same problem, whether streamed from the Humax HDR-Fox T2 or downloaded onto the PC and played as a local file.

"VLC Log - Original Codec.log" is the VLC player log using the original VLC AAC codec

"VLC Log - Alternative Codec.log" is the VLC player log using an alternative VLC AAC codec

"libfaad_plugin.dll" is the alternative AAC codec which resolves the sound level problem
