Distorted audio

Postby Brovig » 07 Jun 2013 01:04

I'm having a problem with severely distorted audio - both when I play a video file (AVI) and audio file (FLAC and ALAC). I can play the same files in other apps and they're not distorted.

In the audio options settings the Output module is set to Default. I also get the same distortion when it's set to DirectX audio but the distortion is gone when I have it set to Win32 waveOut extension output. However, while WaveOut works nicely with an audio file, it's problematic in a different way with an AVI file. The distortion is gone but the audio cuts out frequently for a fraction of a second.

Any suggestion as to what might be causing this?

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and I have the same problem from two systems - a desktop and a laptop system. The desktop is using an M-Audio sound card while the laptop is connected to an external DAC.

Try another audio output module:

And/or some other audio options:

And/or this:

Thanks for your reply. I ended up resolving the issue by uninstalling VLC altogether, including the preferences, and doing a fresh install. And that fixed it!

My problem with severely distorted audio has returned. I've gone through the steps suggested by Lotesdelere and can't find anything that addresses the issue. I can go through the complete re-installation process again that fixed it last time but I'd like to see if I can't get to the bottom of this.

Any thoughts?

I have the same problem. This problem did occur after version 2.05. When you chose the option 'delete buffers' it is still not working. I tested with version 2.06 and 2.07 but in both versions flac files were not player correctly - distorted audio as mentioned in this topic. Maybe it can be fixed somehow, by predifning default settings in a next version. Reinstalling version 2.05 did the trick for me... But this should not be the final solution.

Thanks, good to know I'm not alone. I seem to have fixed things now. I reviewed again the suggestions made by Lotesdeler and made changes to the settings as outlined in the following and the distortion has gone!

I to have audio problems when watching dvb-t tv with vlc. I have video and audio for lets say 5secs then audio drops for 2secs and audio comes back again for +/- 5secs etc etc this goes on endlesly. Video is fine al the time. I tested all the suggestions posted on:
viewtopic.php?p=339577#p339577
and
http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2.0 ... _anomalies

I tried vlc 0.86, 1.0, 2.07 and the nightly build 2.1 nothing gave me normaal audio without the dropouts.

Below I paste a part of the vlc log of vlc 2.1 streaming to my local multicast network. On al client computers this audio drop appears. If i'm not streaming but watch tv directly I have the same audio problem.

I'm running al this on Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit.

Would be very nice if it could be resolved.
