Color Temperature

Postby martin0reg » 02 Jun 2013 11:30

Please make it possible to change the color temperature -
because changing the "hue" or color tone is useless in most cases.

We should be able to make the video look "warmer" or "colder", i.e. changing the "white balance" or the "color temperature".

indeed, but a bit hard to do, because it depends on the monitor.

In photo software which does not have this feature, you can change the white balnce / color temperature by using the RGB buttons:
If you increase the value of R (red) and decrease the value of B (blue) both the same, you get a warmer or colder picture.

But in VCL there is only one button "hue".
If there would be three buttons for R, G and B then you should get the function of white balance as described, by adjusting R and B in opposite directions.

I have edited a test photo with free software to show the different effect of adjusting "hue" and "R-G-B":

original / hue -20 (reddish) / hue -20 (greenish) / R -10 B +10 (colder) / R +10 B -10 (warmer)

(note: adjust only R and B by the same value in opposite direction, let G unchanged)

Adjusting R and B (of R-G-B) produces a much more natural effect, would be more helpful to use in practice.
I hope this is possible in VCL too...
indeed, but a bit hard to do, because it depends on the monitor.
All picture settings (contrast, saturation, ..) depends on the monitor, I think...
