Thanks a ton, man. It's just annoying, that now the file extension is shown, too. But still thousand times better than no filename at all, that sh1t drove me crazy.I finally figured out the resolution.
The behaviour with the filename comes from a lua script for metadata.
Just remove the file (or rename the extension) %Program Files%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\meta\reader\filename.luac and the problem is gone.
Code: Select all

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

Adding the option will immediately pacify EVERYONE WHO HAS COMPLAINED IN THIS TOPIC. Including the many people who registered accounts specifically to complain about THIS ONE PROBLEM. An option is ALL we want. Even if it's hidden away.It is not an issue of how much time it would take to add an option. The thing is, an option will not solve the problem. Users will still complain that the metadata are wrong, because the outstanding majority will not know of the option. And those in the more knowledgeable minority will complain about the default value being wrong. And then, if the default value is changed, other users will complain that VLC regressed and stopped showing correct meta-data.
Okay, here we go. This is the big problem: "My software isn't buggy; everyone else's is!"The bug is in the meta-data, not in the player. The simple reality is that this bug cannot be fixed within VLC code. If the files did not include a bogus title field in their meta-data, VLC would stick to the playlist title as it should.
So what you're saying is, you want your software to be able to automatically determine what users want displayed on their playlists, but until it can, you are unwilling to let those users choose for themselves what they want displayed. What is your end goal, again? To satisfy users? If so, your methods do not follow. If we had remotely accurate statistics on which of the playlist and the embedded metadata are most often accurate in the event that both are provisioned, then maybe, we could change the behaviour - not add an option. But so far, I have not seen any reasonable attempt to honestly (rather than selfishly) determine that.
And that is a negligible minority within the set of users that are actually affected by the problem. The reality that you do not have to deal with, but VLC developers do have to deal with every day, is that every option ends up being misinterpreted and misused by some, and remains unknown to most of those who need it. With these two considerations in mind, an option will not solve the problem, and might in fact make the problem worse or create new problems.Adding the option will immediately pacify EVERYONE WHO HAS COMPLAINED IN THIS TOPIC.
The simple reality is that you cannot expect VLC developers to care to work around bugs in third party software written by careless idiots. We have enough to deal with on our free time with actual VLC bugs. You are free to fix the meta-data in your files and the problem lies between you and the encoder. The 'simple reality' is you can't expect every encoder to follow the principles of good labeling.
Apparently you do not understand, or you would be complaining to the encoders indeed. We users understand this, or we wouldn't be complaining to you—we would be going to the encoders and asking them for better product.
What option? Seriously, when 40 different people in a 5 pages thread arrive and say "me too", it is never the same issue or the same option that they are speaking of!In the time it took you to respond to all of these people you could've written to code to add the option we want 10 times.
