Constant audio stutter on WinXP/Asus Eee PC 1000H

I have recently been experiencing a constant audio stutter on mp3, mp4, avi files.
It happens only on VLC, on the old 2.0.1 version from last year, the 2.0.6 current version, or even the latest 2.1.0 pre1-20130507-0003 nightly build. Nothing changed on the software or hardware sides.

Other media players such as Windows Media Player 9, KMPlayer 3.6.0.87 or even Youtube work fine, clear audio and no stutter.
It seems to be related to a hardware power issue, as the stutter first started when running the netbook on its battery, but now it stutters even when plugged in the power outlet. I tried selecting different output modules in the audio preferences, such as the win32 and directx options, to no avail.

Is there something particular in VLC power requirements that makes it dependent on power variations or degradation? It stutters on the embedded speakers or basic earplugs or a Sennheiser headset.

System: Asus Eee PC 1000H notebook with Windows XP and latest SP/updates.

I too have this issue.
Other players run the video fine, but VLC gets stuttering and weird audio glitch noises. Fairly regularly. I have also tried switching through all of the video output modules (I even did the ASCII one for giggles ), and they all had the audio problem.

The difference being that this is a desktop. A couple of years old, put it together myself. So I doubt it's a power consumption issue. Can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong, and while I've found mention of this issue online they're mostly a few years old. The output module is the only solution I've seen them mention.

At the moment it's annoying me enough that I've switched players, but I'd very much like to get back to using VLC.

I already did, said so in my first post.
By the way, KMPlayer stutters on battery too now, so definitely has to do with the power system, not with VLC. I'll follow up on the Asus forum thread only, I think we can kill the thread in the VLC forum.

It says "timing screwed" and "audio output is starving!"
Unfortunately my name is not "timing" nor "audio output."

Can't see a way to attach files, so here's the Tools|Messages output (I assume this is the log you mention.)
I copied two logs so you can compare, first when running on sector, then on battery power when the stutter occurs.

I opened VLC then used "Media|Open File" to select a song, the stutter was constant since the very beginning of the first song when running on battery, I stopped after 20 seconds or so.
Today KMPlayer is playing the same folder on battery without stutter, so it's not always the case, or maybe I was testing a more CPU intensive video when I found KMPlayer stuttering. In any case, KMPlayer seems to be a bit more resistant to this stuttering than VLC.

There is a Scaletempo audio filter in the advanced "all" view with 3 different settings.

Didn't have many stuttering songs this time with or without time-stretching audio, at least not continuously, but get some stutters eventually, for like 15 seconds or so at a time, on several songs.
As far as I can make it, it is linked to high CPU usage, and maybe it appears to be linked to battery power because it switches the CPU to a different power mode. Anyway, it's a miracle this first Asus netbook is still working.

I also noticed that even when the songs do not stutter, they will still always stutter in the first milliseconds when changing song in the playlist. I wonder if it's what happens when the log shows "inserting n zeroes":
