Can't get the Firefox plugin working on OS X

Postby naphini » 23 Jan 2013 01:55

Hey guys, I've been trying to install the Firefox plugin for Mac OS X, which I downloaded from here. I ran the installer package and closed and reopened Firefox and a plugin simply called "1.0.5" appeared in the add-ons menu, which I assume is it (since that's the release number on the website I linked), but it doesn't appear in about:plugins, and it doesn't work on my test page. I'm on OS X 10.6.8 running Firefox 18.0.1 (the most recent version). What am I doing wrong? Please tell me it's something dumb. I've been racking my brains.

Oh, and for what it's worth, here's my test code:

Code: Select all

<html> <body> <embed type="application/x-vlc-plugin" name="video1" autoplay="no" loop="yes" width="400" height="300" target="VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.vob" /> </body> </html>

Thanks for the response. Do you mean the existing mac plugin doesn't work but there is a new one coming out soon?

Hey, I should have asked before, but how will I know when the working version is posted? Where should I look?

It's been a couple of months... kind of waiting to see what's happening with the Mac plugin as well. Seems kind of misleading to have a link up that doesn't work on a current OS. 10.8.3 and 10.7.5 both with Firefox 20.

Any word yet?

Hi, I tried the plugin v2.0.5. and it works. However, I play a audio-only FLAC stream and the the FireFox screen goes gray with white text indicating VLC plugin is playing, and the statusbar of the browser window turns into the play/control bar of the player. That then constantly flashes as if it is continuously updated. Very disturbing. Is this normal/expected behavior ?

Thank you and best regards,

Erik
