Cannot play mms stream

Should I be able to play an mms stream on my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S III) the same as on my Windows 7 laptop? VLC invites me to enter an mms URL, but doesn't respond to it.

eg - mms://wms.carnyxlive.co.uk/abernethy

Whatever, the VLC icon looks quite nice on my home screen

Plays perfectly fine on the Galaxy Nexus.

I take that back. It hasn't worked since, and others with Android phones say that it worked at first but then stopped. I've tried rtsp and mms streams, it gives me a "play" button for the site I got on 29 April (as if it's a default, or all it's got in its memory) but it's not responsive.

VLC was not updated since then, so it must be a issue with your network or the stream itself.

It occurs with totally different streams. VLC seems to think I'm looking for an album. I must be doing something wrong but I enter the full mms or rtsp just like I did on the one occasion that it worked.
