VLC & Black Magic Intensity Pro help

Postby bmipvlc » 10 Apr 2013 17:55

To give you a little background, we have this Mersive display - it is about 14 feet long, has 3 projectors on the top and bottom of the screen. It is similar to picture 7 (Consumer research display solution) found here: http://www.mersive.com/showcase/#!prettyPhoto

We have a Dell desktop w/ a Fire Pro V9800 w/ 6 display port outlets that runs to the display and we just added an Black Magic Intensity Pro card to the desktop.

What we are trying to accomplish is video streaming from a laptop to the Mersive display.

The software included with the Intensity Pro isn't working for our needs. I saw that the VLC player has a streaming option available and that it sees the video card, but other than that, I have no idea what else I need to do.

Does anyone have insight into this, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Why do you need the BM? Don't you output with the Fire Pro?

The desktop outputs to the Mersive display and it is limited to just whatever is on the desktop.

The reason why we want BM to work is so a user can come into the conf. room and plug in their laptop that has their specific work or apps/programs and stream it onto the big display.

The BM would be connected to the desktop too?

Correct.

The FirePro is connected to the 6 projectors.

The BM would be attached to a users laptop.

Both are in the desktop.

So the BM is the connection between the laptop and the desktop?

Correct.

We want to stream content from the laptop that is connected via the HDMI to the BM. Then that content is shown on the Mersive display.

The issue is that the BM input is not standard DShow, and so, it does not work well on VLC on Windows. Could be fixable, but not simple.

Is the fix in the next 2.0.7 Final ?

This thread kept coming up in google searches so I figured I would provide the answer, either for you or future google searches :)

The answer is: http://www.amarectv.com/english/amarectv_e.htm

and it's free!!!

Download the specific version designed for the Black Magic Intensity Pro.

This will allow you to connect a laptop to the BM via HDMI and then display it on the screen, resize it, full screen, etc. Very powerful program! If you need help setting it up just let me know.
