One mpg file can't play video and sound

Postby Anima » 01 Feb 2004 13:30

I have this one mpg file which the video basically stops and there's no sound coming from it. All my other mpg files can play correctly.

What wrong with it?

Thanks in advance.

it stops and no sound is available. that is what is wrong with it. Beyond that, i don't think any of us have the power to look at your stream from our own rooms just by thinking of you.

You can upload a sample, and report its name here. we may take a look at it. Probably your stream is just broken though

you can upload to

ftp://ftp.videolan.org/incoming

When I checked the messages it says:

main warning: PTS is out of range [563599], dropping buffer
main warning: late picture skipped [3458]
main debug: decoded 64/106
main debug: stream periodicity changed from P[5] to P[1]

those are some of the messages I'm getting. what does it mean?

It's dropping half the frames.
So it might be a high quality stream, which your computer just cannot handle or it's a bug. What resolution does this video have?

Ok... the resolution is 320 x 240 and 69.9 MB file and 4:19 long.

The mpg file works with other players.

What OS?

I remember there were problems like this a while back with libmpeg2.

Could this be a possible glitch for the player? or is it just my file?

No idea, noone looked at the file yet.
Since this case is unique so far there is no way to tell.

The audio track timing information in this file is completly redicilous. Most players don't use this, but for VLC it is essential. VLC is build for streaming, and for streaming this information is required.

it's not a proper mpg file :(
