Nobody knows how to make feature LOOP A <> B work?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Nobody knows how to make feature LOOP A <> B work?

Postby Roffen » 25 Feb 2013 19:57

VLC and Win7, I have tried several versions in XP as well:

I am surprised tha nobody have come forward to comment on the same question that I posted before but I try again. I have tried in vain to use the feature of setting two points, 'A' and 'B' on the playback scale, that according to the description is supposed to make a video loop contnuously between the the two points in time.

It is so easy, just click (at the proper spot in the extended functions menu) at the two points in time during playback and that's that, as far as I can tell from the description.

I have also looked at the thread about bookmarks and scripts but my first atttempt at creating bookmarks, saving the file and opening it for use, did not seem to work.

I don't think I am ready for creating scripts yet...

Loop A-B
View > Advanced Controls
Press A-B button to set starting point of the loop - A, then set ending point of the loop - B by pressing A-B button again.
Press A-B button again to unset the loop.
Works for me with AVI{XVID, MP3}.

Now I know: It works with AVI files, but NOT with WMV files!

I found a converter (http://wmvtoaviconverter.org/) for WMV -> AVI conversion but it worked only on a couple of files, then it began finishing the copy in one second - and left only a zero byte avi-file. installed it under WIn7, no success installing under XP or Win2k due to DLL /.NET Framework problems.

BTW, the converter has an impressive list of formats it can convert.

OK, I'm outing myself as not being deep into this subject, but what is the A-B button? If it's the "loop" button, second from the right, then the procedure described by mederi above doesn't seem to work for me:
- start AVI file playback
- at some point press the loop button, it displays slightly indented after pressing
- now what, and where? must I wait for the ending point to be reached, or can I click on the timeline and then loop, or..?
Please give me a cookbook for dummies.

All the best,
Ralph

If not View > Advanced Controls, then Tools > Customize Interface...
