Add multiple custom aspect ratios?

Postby qwerty58 » 18 Feb 2013 15:44

Hello.

I have some dvb-t recordings (h264, mp2, 720x576).
Some of them have wrong information (flags?) about the appropriate display aspect ratio. This is because some channels have a permanent 16:9 frame (even if the content is shot in 4:3) and vice versa (4:3 frame - 16:9 content)

I want to add two custom aspect ratios. (~785:576 and ~1047:576). Is it possible to permanently add both of these?

How is VLC determining the display aspect ratio of a video? I know the storage resolution in PAL is 720x576. What about the pixel aspect ratio? (i think 12:11 and 16:11 are the correct PARs for PAL ---720*12:11~785 and 720*16:11~1047). Besides the 720x576 information VLC needs something more to determine the display aspect ratio. Where is this information 'hidden'? Is there any flag(?) in digital streams that describe the appropriate pixel aspect ratio of a video?

I hope i made my self clear (English is not my native language + i know nothing about programming)

Thank you.

Yes, you are right.
Tools > Preferences > ( Show settings = All ) > Video: scroll down to Custom aspect ratios list [785:576,1047:576]
Then you will have your custom aspect ratios added in the list of AR (VLC menu: Video > Aspect Ratio > ...).
