Can't play dvd, Libdvdread?

Recently I posted on Linux Mint forums about a DVD playback problem.. after a long stressful few days I FINALLY found a different DVD to verify.. Yes Man works on playback.. but Brave does not. INCIDENTALLY the DVD called "Hard Hat Harry" also has playback issues... which is from 2005.

I ASSUMED this was a "new dvd playback" problem due to updates... but I can't play the children's disc on this computer (Linux Mint 13)..

Updating this... I JUST RECOVERED FROM A CRASH ORIGINATING FROM AN ATTEMPT TO HAVE VLC PLAY A THE HARD HAT HARRY DISK TO HELP WITH DIAGNOSIS AND SYMPTOMS.
I inserted the disk, tried to read it... and my GUI (Cinnamon on Mint 13, which is a derived from Gnome 3) stopped responding. I did a Ctrl + Alt + PrintScreen REISUB reset and managed to SAVE this post.

UGH. What is happening here??

That's a bug in dvdnav. You can try without menus until it's fixed (dvdsimple://).

Well I tried that and it doesn't seem to work either.. not sure if I'm typing something erroneously, whether it's the same problem, or whether it's revealing a more fundamental problem.. So I'm posting it.

This DVD is known to crash both libdvdread AND libdvdnav.

However, we need the backtrace of the libdvdread, like you did in the second gdb, but with a "bt"

I'm quite confused.. it looks the same.

As an additional detail I did a back up on Ubuntu 12.04 after upgrading from Ubuntu 10.04.. then I switched it to Linux Mint 13.. and that's when I restored the backup (Deja Dup).. This would be a concern if it backed up more than just /home files... I would think.
