Player not visible

I downloaded VLC 2.0.5 (newest version) and now I can hear music or videos, but can't see the player. I've uninstalled and reinstalled VLC, but have same problem. If I minimize player to tray and click to restore on screen, the vlc tab in the tray appears to minimize on the desktop screen and disappears. I have never encountered this problem before.

I tried for hours to get the VLC player to work, but no solution was found, that is until I hooked up my smart phone to my computer. I was browsing through the SD card and switching out some music files, when I came upon a music file that had video as well as audio. When I clicked play, the VLC player made itself visible again and everything magically started working correctly. I have had no further problems or malfunctions with the player. I am curious as to why playing this one music video caused the player to function correctly when all other attempts to play videos, etc., resulted in audio only and no visible player.
