2.0.5 freezes

Postby bmike1 » 21 Jan 2013 23:08

2.0.5 freezes on the first frame while the sound continues. I found this site while researching a solution and the solution for an earlier version was to increase the cache but Can't figure out how to do that. Is that still the solution and if so how do you increase the cache?

Go to Tools > Preferences > Show Settings "All" > Input/Codecs. Scroll down to the bottom and increase the cache size of the media type you are trying to play.

Thanks for the response. I guess that solution wasn't the right one for me. Nothing changed.

okay..... here is what's happening. I upgraded from mint 13 to 14 in the hopes that would fix the problem but that didn't help any. I also increased the cache for vlc but that was not a help as well. So I have to choose between vlc, totem, and mplayer; vlc freezes at the first frame while audio continues normally; totem plays slowly and the audio stops after saying, 'Hello Michael' (the first sound on the video) but it doesn't seem to have any interlacing associated with the video; mplayer needs deinterlacing and the video is slow but the audio plays normally. So vlc has the least wrong with it:D

If all three players fail in different ways, you have to face the obvious cause: your input file is corrupt or one of your device drivers is buggy.

Then it must be a driver because I have 5 input files and they all fail the same way.

I was just requested to upload a video so I did (to flickr). The uploaded file played normally in flickr but when I tried to play it with vlc sound was normal but the video froze on the first frame, moved a tiny bit and then froze again. here is the flickr link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/57070982@N ... hotostream
(my voice really is that bad due to a head injury)
